Four Types of Therapy That Will Make You Happy

Today’s world is hectic and chaotic. Managing everyday life can be tiresome, and it’s no wonder why our serotonin levels may be low, and we struggle to meet daily demands. In such a fast-paced world, we rarely take a chance to disconnect and allow ourselves to reconnect. Fortunately, there are multiple ways you can achieve this.

“There are several ways you can unwind and naturally boost your serotonin levels,” says Revivology, a medical spa and surgery center in Utah. “Some of the best spas have curated many of these therapeutic treatments in one place, from saunas to steam baths and massage sessions. In other cases, a simple walk along a nature trail can prove restorative. Whatever the case, a solution to your daily pressures is often never too far away.”

With that in mind, here are four types of therapy proven to improve your health and make you happier:

Sensory Deprivation

Sensory deprivation tanks work by eliminating the stimuli around you. Many people don’t realize how much is happening around them on a daily basis. Even if you placed soundproof headphones on and closed your eyes, you’d still be surrounded by plenty of different stimuli. You’d still smell things in your vicinity and feel the temperature of the room.

In a sensory deprivation tank, all of that stimuli is eliminated. You’re placed in a water chamber designed to create the illusion of no gravity via a natural floating sensation. By ridding yourself of sights, sounds, smells, and feelings around you, many people believe you can achieve a higher state of consciousness—and even improve your overall mental health and well-being. According to one study, being in a sensory deprivation tank could even ignite feelings of creativity—perfect for people in creative industries that need a bit of a reboot.

Acupuncture
Acupuncture is an ancient and storied practice. It is built upon the premise that many ailments can be treated by pinpointing certain parts of the body that have caused a disruption in energy flow. A massive meta study that analyzed several independent studies found that acupuncture was effective in soothing chronic pain. Some studies even suggest it could curb depression. During one trial, patients who used acupuncture in conjunction with antidepressants fared better than those who used solely traditional treatments.

Hydrotherapy

Using hydrotherapy as a therapeutic treatment is nothing new. Back since ancient Roman times, people have been turning to hydrotherapy to curb ailments and improve mood. First and foremost, there are different types of hydrotherapy, which refers to a variety of water-based treatments. From the sauna to a sitz bath or steam shower, hydrotherapy provides ample benefits. The weightlessness you feel because of the buoyancy of water allows you to ease your muscles, and potentially alleviate some of the pain you might be feeling in your limbs.

Water immersion is also a natural endorphin stimulant, which means the endorphins responsible for happiness and pain make it easier to stress less and for your body to enter a relaxed state. Furthermore, water can improve your blood flow and circulation of white cells, which ultimately strengthens your immune system. And lastly, for a more immediate effect, if you have a cold or sinuses, being in steam can help clear it up.

Nature Therapy
Connecting with nature has both a conscious and unconscious effect on the mind and body. Studies have shown that being surrounded by nature can improve your health, cognition, and mood. Whether we realize it or not, when we’re out in nature—whether we’re on a stretch of sandy beach, hiking a mountain, or walking a forest trail—the connection between happiness and nature immersion is strong. Being in the wilderness has a particularly strong effect, as studies have shown that it increases our presentness and awareness.

This has spawned the development of wilderness therapy—an adventure based therapy treatment designed to modify behavior and better interpersonal self-improvement. Horticulture therapy is also a type of nature therapy that involves therapeutic gardening. With horticulture therapy, you have a direct connection with nature from hand to plant. This type of treatment has been particularly effective among seniors, as research has found that elderly are able to reduce stress and improve memory when working with nature.

CBD isolate vs Full-spectrum: Which One is more beneficial?

As the CBD sector continues to blossom and countless products are now available on the market, some questions are readily popping up every now and then about CBD products. One of these numerous questions pertains to CBD isolate vs CBD full-spectrum, which is more beneficial? What is the difference and similarities between CBD isolate and full-spectrum?

CBD isolate is known as the purest, and most concentrated form of the CBD cannabinoid, which further sparks the argument. Most people are concerned about using products containing THC, so CBD manufacturers chose to take the THC out of their solutions. But how do full-spectrum products compare to isolate products? Keep reading and you will get all the answers you seek.

What is CBD isolate?

CBD isolate simply means that the product contains only CBD and no other cannabinoids. Here, purified CBD is extracted from the hemp plant then isolated from other naturally occurring cannabinoids.

What is CBD full-spectrum?

CBD full-spectrum means that the product contains CBD and other cannabis compounds found in marijuana or hemp. CBD full-spectrum products also include other parts of the plant, such as terpenes (terpenes influences the smell and flavor of the extract) and essential oils.

Full-spectrum CBD advantages

CBD is only one of many exogenous cannabinoids found in cannabis plants. In fact, there are 113 others found in cannabis plants. If you select a full-spectrum product, you will benefit from this multitude of potentially beneficial exogenous cannabinoids and you’ll also benefit from the plant terpenes and flavonoids found in the original hemp plant. Using a full-spectrum product means that all of these compounds will be available in the same ratio as intended by nature. Other compounds found in a full-spectrum CBD product are:
  • Calcium and magnesium
  • All 20 essential amino acids
  • Omega-3 fatty acids
  • Vitamin C, E, and A
  • Phosphorus and Zinc
  • Iron and potassium
  • B complex vitamins
Many CBD experts believe that full-spectrum CBD products are more beneficial to your endocannabinoid system as well as your overall health. The full-spectrum CBD compounds are all synergistic meaning the compound interacts with themselves to enhance each component, thereby creating an entourage effect.

Advantages of CBD isolates

CBD isolate is a full-spectrum product isolated from the plant compounds using a process called chromatography whereby the plant materials are removed. The result is a whitish powder comprised of at least 99% CBD. The other plant terpenes and cannabinoids are removed. CBD isolate is odorless and flavorless.

So, in other words, CBD isolate is CBD in its purest form. There are numerous advantages to using an isolate over a full-spectrum product. These advantages are:
  • Zero flavor to interfere with the taste of your edible products
  • THC is potentially removed
  • No odor of the original plant source
  • Lower cost per milligram
  • The potential for higher levels of CBD per dose
  • More control of CBD levels of the finished product
CBD isolate vs full-spectrum: Similarities and differences

When it comes to the similarities of these two, there is one simple example— both contain cannabidiol. Also, there are a number of ways CBD can be extracted to make both isolate products and full-spectrum products. The CO2 extraction is one of the best methods.

Here is a simple breakdown of the difference between CBD isolate vs full-spectrum;

CBD isolates:
  • Zero THC or other cannabinoids
  • Pure CBD
  • Processed further than full-spectrum CBD
  • Doesn’t include plant compounds, such as terpenes
Full-spectrum CBD:
  • Contains CBD and other plant compounds
  • Undergoes fewer process than CBD isolates
  • Contains less than 0.3 percent THC (when derived from hemp)
  • Works synergistically with THC and other plant compounds
In spite the fact that CBD isolate is a more concentrated form of cannabidiol, doesn’t mean that it has greater effects. In fact, some research shows that full-spectrum CBD, which is a combination of cannabinoids and plant compounds, has a complementary effect, known as the entourage effect.
Final thoughts

There is no straight answer to this question, even if CBD isolate contains more CBD, on the other hand, the lack of terpenes and cannabis compounds makes CBD full-spectrum more beneficial in some people’s book. So, take the time and find out for yourself which one is best for you. Both these products are available everywhere for purchase for you to buy and try them yourself. But keep these in mind: endeavor to check the dosage of your serving size so you don’t take too much or too little.

Lastly, check the list to make sure the extract is produced from the full hemp plant and not just hemp seeds.

Dealing with Snoring: 5 Effective Solutions

If you suffer from snoring, then it can cause you to have disturbed and poor-quality sleep. Snoring is a common problem with around half of all-American adults snoring during the night. Snoring occurs when air goes down your throat during breathing while you are asleep. This can lead to the tissues feeling relaxed and vibrating, which creates the harsh sound. These irritating sounds that are created can be disruptive to both your sleep and the sleep of your partner. However, even if you don’t think your snoring is a problem, it is important that you don’t ignore this serious health condition. Snoring could be a symptom of a more serious sleep condition, such as sleep deprivation or sleep apnea.

Therefore, it is important that you deal with your snoring and try some of these five effective solutions to try and solve your snoring problem.

Change Your Position

You may find that the position you lie in will determine how bad your snoring is. By changing your position and sleeping on your side, you may find that your snoring gets less serious or goes entirely. Sometimes, sleeping on your back can cause your tongue to stay towards the back of your throat, leaving your airflow blocked. This is what creates the snoring noise. Therefore, you should change and sleep on your side so that the airflow can easily through your throat and ease your snoring. If you struggle to stay on your side while you are asleep, then you may want to put a pillow behind your back to stop you from rolling onto your back throughout the night.

Manage Your Weight

One of the biggest causes of snoring is being overweight, as the more tissue you have in your throat the more likely you are to snore. Being overweight is not good for your overall health and can increase your risk of getting more serious health problems. Therefore, it is important that you try to lose weight if you need to. By getting some form of exercise at least once a day and reducing your calorie intake you will see your weight decrease. If you are struggling to lose weight on your own, then you should consult a dietician or doctor.

Use Snoring Aids

There are many different products available that may be able to offer you an effective solution. From dental mouthpieces to snoring strips there are various options for you to try. However, the mouth strips by Somnifix can reduce open-mouth snoring and improve nasal breathing abilities. They are comfortable and easy to wear with the built-in breathing vent plus they’re hypoallergenic and easy to use. If you suffer from snoring and want to try an effective home remedy, then you should be sure to try out the products Somnifix has to offer.

Change Pillows

Changing your pillows may offer an effective solution for your snoring problem, as getting pillows that elevate your head may help to keep your airways open.

Watch What You Drink Before Bed

It is important that you stay hydrated, not only for your overall health but also to ease your snoring.

By drinking plenty of fluids, you can stop the secretions in your nose from becoming sticky due to dehydration, which can create more snoring. It is important that you drink water throughout the day and avoid drinking alcohol in the evenings, as this can make you more likely to snore during the night.

It is important that you don’t disregard your snoring issue, as it could be a symptom of a more serious health problem that your doctor may be able to assist you with.

Reasons Why Teen Drug Use Is Increasing

The issue of teen drug use is no longer new. Regardless of where you live right now, it’s safe to assume that several teens are already exposed to drugs even at a young age. As a parent or guardian, teen drug use can be a serious issue. You would never want any teen in your family to experience the repercussions of drug abuse. Not only will drug use adversely affect a teen’s life, but it can also have adverse effects on its family members.

According to DrugAbuseStatistics.org, 86% of teenagers already use drugs during school days, and this number is increasing day by day.

Here are some of the reasons why teen drug abuse is increasing nowadays:

1.    Teens Want To Fit In.

Most teens think that in order for them to fit in, they have to follow any trend and practice what their peers are doing. If their friends are using an iPad, they think that they have the responsibility to convince their parents to buy them one. If all of their classmates have an Instagram account, they would likely sign up, too. This is one of the most obvious reasons why more and more teens are using drugs. They think that in order for them to fit in, they should do “what others are doing.”

Teens will not always think about the consequences of their actions. If they see that their peers are doing it, they may immediately jump in on the trend and do the same without having any second thoughts.

2.    Teens Want To Feel Good.

Using drugs in high doses and frequency can trigger a teen’s brain to “crave” for drugs. To paint a clearer picture of how drugs can rewire a teen’s brain, consider the points below:
  • The brain is built on repeating experiences that make teens feel good. This is one of the reasons why teens are willing to wait in line and buy ice cream. The sensation of eating one will provide euphoria in their bodies. Because of this, teens will be motivated to save money and buy ice cream repeatedly. The same premise is applicable when it comes to teen drug use.

  •  Once teens use drugs, the reward system of their brains will be triggered. As a response, their brain will produce a chemical called dopamine. This chemical provides a feeling of intense pleasure. So, in order for teens to experience the same pleasure over and over again, they keep on using drugs.
  • Over time, this behavior can program a teen’s brain to be accustomed to large amounts of dopamine. For teens to continually experience the same good feeling, they might need to take larger amounts of drugs.
3.    Teens Want To Feel Better.

Most teens will have a lot on their plate. Aside from maintaining good grades, teens are also pressured to balance their time and energy between home and extracurricular activities. This still doesn’t include the responsibilities they have as a sibling or family member.

Because teens are usually overwhelmed with the number of responsibilities they have, they may turn to drugs to help them feel better.

Teens suffer from different types of stress, anxiety, depression, and physical pain. Usually, they don’t have any outlets to release all of these pains. All of the struggles teens face every day are reasons enough for them to use drugs. For them, using drugs can lessen the feelings of pain and depression, allowing them to move forward in life easier.

4.    Teens Want To Do Better.

Teens are living in a competitive society. No matter what they do in life, there will always be competition. They’ll be pressured to graduate with high honors or earn a top position in a school organization.

The pressure from this competition can fuel teens to try out drugs. Some teens use drugs in order to perform better in their academic and athletic requirements. Some teens will even take high doses of illegal drugs as a preparation for a term exam or sports tryout because they think that doing this will improve their performance.

5.    Teens Want To Experiment.

Teens are usually curious. They have a lot of questions about the things happening around them. But instead of merely asking how drugs affect other people, they may opt to try the drug themselves.

For teens, experimenting will not only give them a better idea about a specific issue, but the activity will also be perceived as daring or thrilling.

Get Help

If you know someone in your family who’s currently overusing drugs, seek professional help fast. Several psychologists and treatments are available for teens to help them live a drug-free life.

How lenses protect your eyes?

The world is a beautiful place, but is that so without your eyes? Surely not. They say, “Beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder”, but what if the beholder lost their eyes?

It’s only when we look from a blind person’s perspective that we understand the actual value of having healthy eyes. Sadly, some people are born blind or with weak eyes, but for most, there are ways to maintain the quality of sight. To discuss this topic, firstly, let’s have a look at why it happens.

Why and when do the eyes weaken?
Oftentimes, older people have vision problems, and the situation is quite apparent. They might have macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, glaucoma, cataract, and/or various other issues.

But sometimes, especially in modern times, low vision issues are seen at a very young age. Technology has made our lives more comfortable, but on the other hand, it also has leveled up the setbacks as well. We might enjoy watching movies on our laptop or are stuck to games on a smartphone for long hours, but one thing we don’t notice often is it negatively impacts our eye health.

Moreover, UV rays coming out from the sun is another common reason behind the poor eye health these days.

But how do we tackle this? Well, read on to know.

What to exactly do to maintain the quality of your eyes?
Primarily, regular exercises and better nutrition are the ways to maintain the quality of one’s eyes. However, if that doesn’t work for someone, use of corrective lenses can.

How lenses protect our eyes?
Enhanced exposure of eyes to bright light and reflection makes it much more difficult to see outdoors. In that case, we need to make use of lenses to protect our eyes.

If one wants to understand how lenses protect our eyes, they first need to understand the basic functioning of our eyes. Our eyes include a retina that is a layer of cells that reacts to light. Whenever we watch anything, a reaction is performed, and the signals are sent to the brain, which further translates into the activities you are viewing.

These light rays ideally focus on the surface of the retina for perfectly visioned people, but when it finds any interruptions in between, the image starts altering-- It might shrink or blur somehow.

That’s where eyeglasses come in.

Eyeglass lenses are generally curved pieces of glass-like mermaid tears that work to bend light rays as they approach your eyes. These lenses only help the rays in focusing on your retina rather than behind or in front of it.

Based on where the rays fall, there are two types of lenses used to correct the position of the rays: convex and concave. In convex lenses, the curve is outward-facing, i.e., it’s for nearsighted people. In concave lenses, the curve is inwards-facing, i.e., it’s for farsighted individuals. That’s everything about the vision and lenses.

Wrap up:
Either concave, convex, on in some cases, bipolar, lenses help people maintain healthy vision. Of course, technology has given this to us, but healthy eating and exercise should still be one’s priority to maintain eye quality.

How Modafinil Can Be Useful in the Treatment of Narcolepsy

A part of our lives that we frequently overlook and take for granted is our sleep. It is easy to underestimate how important our sleep is to how we feel and function in our everyday lives. Sleep is considered one of the basic needs of every human being that is needed for us to be physically and mentally healthy.

The average person sleeps for 7-8 hours a day. It is easy for us to overlook that if the average human being sleeps for 8 hours a day that this then turns out to be more than 30 percent of our life.
Any disturbance to the quality and amount of our sleep ends up having a very negative effect on our lives. This includes our mood and energy levels during the day, how well we work and play and our relationships with the people in our lives.

Narcolepsy is a sleep disorder that affects both the quality and duration of sleep of approximately 1 out of every 2000 people. Men and women are equally affected by Narcolepsy. Unfortunately, despite being a common and one of the well-recognized sleep disorders, it is not diagnosed by physicians and other health care professionals as often as it should be. This means that many people who are currently suffering from the negative effects of Narcolepsy can go undiagnosed and untreated for many years before they are treated.

Once Narcolepsy is diagnosed, there are multiple approaches to treating it. The most effective way to treat Narcolepsy involves using a combination of behavioral techniques and medications. One category of medicine used to Narcolepsy is called Stimulants. A popular, safe and effective stimulant that is increasingly being used to treat Narcolepsy is Modafinil.

What is Narcolepsy?

Narcolepsy is a sleep disorder that affects almost 1 out of every 2000 people. Men and women are equally affected by this condition. However, many people do not even know they are experiencing symptoms of Narcolepsy. They often struggle with and live with the difficulties that this condition can have on the quality of their personal and professional lives.

The typical person with Narcolepsy will describe feeling sleepy and tired much more than what is considered normal during the day and also have disturbed sleep at night. They also describe falling asleep very quickly and having little to no control of when and where they fall asleep. When they do fall asleep, they can experience very intense dreams, nightmares, vivid hallucinations, and sleep paralysis. In sleep paralysis, people experience a feeling of waking up from sleep but not being able to move.

These symptoms leave those with Narcolepsy feeling powerless and at a disadvantage. Due to limited awareness, people can often mistake people with Narcolepsy to be lazy, unproductive and uninterested. Narcolepsy comes at a very high social cost to those with the disease. To make it worse, they often don't understand their own condition.

At what age does Narcolepsy start?

A person can begin to experience symptoms of Narcolepsy at any age but it is known to start between the ages of 10-30.

What are the symptoms of Narcolepsy?

Narcolepsy is a chronic neurological sleep disorder. People with Narcolepsy commonly start experiencing when they are adolescents or young adults.  Unfortunately, having a chronic condition often means that once a person starts experiencing the symptoms of Narcolepsy they will most likely experience them for the rest of their lives.

The symptoms experienced by those with Narcolepsy are:

Excessive daytime sleepiness:

Patients with Narcolepsy will frequently complain of falling asleep without any warning at a time when it is not appropriate for them to sleep. They also fall asleep in places that may not be appropriate places to sleep.

Disturbed nighttime sleep:

Even though having Narcolepsy means that a person may fall asleep frequently and at random throughout the day, it does not mean that they have a normal amount of restful sleep at night that matches their cycle of staying awake during the day and sleeping at night.

Cataplexy:

This is a partial or total loss of muscle tone. This can be a distressing symptom experienced by only some people with Narcolepsy in which they experience suddenly losing function of some or all muscles of their body. Cataplexy happens without warning.

This loss of control is not permanent and recovery usually happens slowly over the course of a day but because there is no knowing when it will happen or what will cause this to happen, it can be very concerning.

Intense dreaming:

The unexpected falling asleep in Narcolepsy is also experienced with intense and often very realistic dreams (including nightmares) that often begin immediately when a person falls asleep. Depending on the dream, it can be distressing for the person.

Sleep Paralysis and Hallucinations:

Sleep paralysis is the experience of waking up but feeling like you are unable to move. It is common to experience this phenomenon in adolescents and sometimes in our lives. But people with

Narcolepsy may experience this regularly.

Hallucinations can also be experienced during sleep paralysis. These hallucinations usually occur either when the person is falling asleep or when they are waking up. They can be very realistic and frightening for the person experiencing them.

What causes Narcolepsy?

The answer to this question is not straightforward. We do not currently know what causes Narcolepsy. There is more information today about what causes Narcolepsy than in the past but despite advances in the study of sleep and sleep disorders, our understanding about what the causes are and why it happens in only some people and not in others is limited.

How do we Diagnose Narcolepsy?

The diagnosis of Narcolepsy involves a doctor taking a detailed medical history and performing a physical examination. Patients suspected of having Narcolepsy are referred to doctors who are specialists in diagnosing, treating and managing sleep disorders and its complications. These doctors are often Neurologists, ENT (Ear, Nose, and Throat) specialists or Pulmonary specialists.

After the history and physical exam, a doctor will usually proceed to perform specialized tests that are usually performed in a sleep lab. Two important tests required for a diagnosis of Narcolepsy are:
  1. Polysomnography: This is commonly called a sleep study. This is an overnight study in which multiple measurements are made while a person is asleep that help doctors learn more about the details of a person's sleep cycle.

  2. Multiple Sleep Latency Test: This testing is performed during the day. It determines how often a person falls asleep during the day, how long it takes for them to fall asleep and if they dream during this sleep or not.
It is important to know and understand that once an accurate diagnosis of Narcolepsy is made,  then there are multiple treatment options that can be prescribed to a patient including new stimulants such Modafinil Now.

Treatment of Narcolepsy

For anyone diagnosed with Narcolepsy, it is important to understand that it is a sleep disorder that is life long and has no known cure. However, through modern medication it is still possible for

Narcoleptic patients to get quality sleep in their lives and overcome the challenges that come with having Narcolepsy.

Managing Narcolepsy involves using techniques to change a person's sleep behavior and medication. Medications like Modafinil can help manage Narcolepsy and other sleep disorder conditions with relatively few side effects resulting in healthier more quality sleep.

What medications are used to treat Narcolepsy?

There are different medications that can be used to treat the disabling symptoms of Narcolepsy. These include:
  1. Stimulants
  2. Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors (SSRIs) or Serotonin and Norepinephrine Reuptake Inhibitors (SNRI’s)
  3. Tricyclic Antidepressants (TCA)
  4. Sodium Oxybate (Commonly known by its commercial drug name, “Xyrem”)
SSRIs, SNRI and TCA are used to manage the symptoms of Cataplexy (sudden loss of control of muscle), Hallucinations and Sleep Paralysis that often coexists with Narcolepsy. Sodium Oxybate is also useful for managing the symptom of cataplexy and also helps improve sleep at night.

Stimulants such as Methylphenidate, better known as Ritalin and Amphetamines an example of which is “Adderall” work by releasing the same chemicals in our body that are released when we have an adrenaline rush. They have been effective at managing excessive sleepiness in Narcolepsy but are associated with many side effects such as heart palpitations, high blood pressure, sleep deprivation, exhaustion, stomach disorders and more.

Fortunately, new medications such as Modafinil have proven to be a game-changer for managing the symptoms of Narcolepsy with fewer side-effects.

What is Modafinil and how does it work?

As described at Modafinil Now, Modafinil is commonly known as “Provigil”, “Modavigil”, and Alertec" depending on the market. Modafinil works on the histamine chemical system to promote alertness and decrease the tendency for a person to fall asleep.

Modafinil does not have the same habit-forming and addiction potential as other stimulants. Many patients describe feeling awake and present without it having an effect on their moods.

Modafinil blocks the same system that is often activated when a person takes an allergy or cold medication and then feels drowsy. This is the histamine system. This system has a role to play in promoting our state of wakefulness.

By only targeting the main symptom responsible for triggering Narcolepsy, Modafinil is able to promote wakefulness, increase alertness and reduce excessive sleepiness during the day.

What are the side effects of Modafinil?

The side effects with the use of Modafinil are fewer and less serious than with the use of other stimulants. The most common side effect noticed by patients is Headaches. This side effect goes away within a day. Other less common side effects with the use of Modafinil include, dry mouth, feeling dizzy and an upset stomach.

How Modafinil can be useful in the treatment of Narcolepsy?

The use of new stimulants like Modafinil and the use of behavioral techniques that promote healthy sleeping habits are proving to be very useful in helping those with Narcolepsy. Patients can now maintain wakefulness, feel less tired, experience fewer side effects and have a significantly better quality of life.

Lupus, the Mysterious Autoimmune Disease

Lupus is a mysterious condition with no known cure. It is an autoimmune disorder that affects more than 1.5 million people in America alone, and while its main outward symptom is psoriasis-like skin lesions and blisters, the disease can also affect your joints and organs, too. While the condition is chronic and incurable, people with the disease can still live a long and happy life with treatment.

What Is an Autoimmune Disease?

An autoimmune disease is a disease that affects your immune system. The immune system is a mysterious thing, and due to reasons we don’t always know of, sometimes it can become overactive or underactive. With Lupus, your immune system becomes overzealous, attacking tissues that are a natural part of your body in addition to foreign germs and invaders.

The Many Faces of Lupus

Lupus can come in several forms. The main type of Lupus, called Systemic Lupus Erythematosus, is when your immune system attacks your skin, internal organs, and joints, damaging them and making them sore. Discoid Lupus Erythematosus is a related form of Lupus that only manifests as rashes on the skin. However, people with DLE are more likely to develop SLE over the course of their lifetime, meaning the two conditions may be related somehow. Lupus can also manifest as a rash that appears when exposed to the sun or as a side effect of certain drugs, but the symptoms tend to go away when the drug is no longer being taken. Lupus can also be passed from mother to child through a conditioned called Neonatal Lupus.

Lupus Treatment

Lupus’ many forms only make it more mysterious to us. Scientists and doctors still don’t know what exactly causes Lupus, but they suspect that it may have something to do with genetics. Currently, Lupus can be treated with lifestyle changes and medications. For example, someone who experiences severe skin lesions from Lupus might use skin lotions or medicated ointments to help control the symptoms.

The most effective treatment for Lupus is the use of immunosuppressants. Since Lupus is the result of an overactive immune system, suppressing the immune system is an excellent way to treat (but not cure) the symptoms. Lupus can also force patients to take medications for the parts of their body affected by Lupus, such as heart medicine for those who experience heart symptoms.

When taking time away from school to take part in treatment for disorders such as bulimia nervosa, eating disorder clients in adolescence and their families should consider how to ensure that their education does not stall out.  Treatment for anorexia nervosa and bulimia nervosa, along with other common eating disorders, can require a relatively long stay in a residential bulimia nervosa treatment center or another focused facility.  At a crucial time for personal and educational development like the adolescent years, major pauses in education can have deleterious consequences, including:
  • Being held back
  • Falling behind in the coursework
  • Being unprepared for tests
  • Loss of extracurricular eligibility
Quality Bulimia Nervosa Treatment Centers Provide Education Options

Of course, the primary goal of any bulimia nervosa treatment program is to address the symptoms and underlying causes of the disease and help clients to become fully recovered. However, the best facilities which treat eating disorders like bulimia nervosa make a special effort to ensure the girls and young women in their care are able to not only become more comfortable with their bodies and their relationships with food and movement, but that they can learn valuable life skills that can be applied long after treatment for anorexia nervosa or bulimia nervosa ends.  When an adolescent is removed from the high school experience, this can mean that an important point during her development is interrupted.

What Can Bulimia Nervosa Treatment Centers Do About It?

First and foremost, it’s important to understand that the average onset of eating disorders like bulimia nervosa is age 18, meaning that a significant amount of those who need treatment will begin to show symptoms while they are still in high school or even middle school.  During this time of crucial development in cognitive function, basic life skills, and even socialization growth, separation can throw a wrench in the works.

For these reasons, at facilities that treat bulimia nervosa, eating disorder treatment programs for teens should include a variety of educational options.  More than self-guided study, there are a variety of programs which can help.
  • Having certified educators on-site
Teaching is an art and a science.  The presence of qualified, professional educators with state and local certifications greatly increases the quality of the supplemental education clients can receive during a residential or outpatient bulimia nervosa treatment program.
  • Availability of specialty tutors
Especially in the junior and senior years of high school, students are able to choose special coursework – for example, a teenager especially talented in the sciences may take a special physics course limited to four or five gifted students.  In these cases, the availability of specialty tutors, even for referral, can make all the difference in a talented student’s academic growth.
  • Daily educational sessions
During residential treatment for eating disorders like bulimia nervosa and anorexia nervosa, the majority of time will be spent, naturally, on treating the physical, psychological and spiritual needs of the client.  However, during a crucial period of development such as late adolescence, education is a key as well.  Because of this, and to prevent the client from falling behind, it's recommended that there is a period of time set aside daily for ongoing education.  While a normal 8 hour day is, of course, impossible, it’s recommended that 2 – 3 hours a day are made available.
  • A well-designed and implemented reentry plan
After having been away from school for an extended period of time, it can be difficult for an adolescent to reintegrate into daily school life.  Especially in cases where anxiety accompanies anorexia or bulimia nervosa eating disorders, the returning individual may struggle to get back into both the academic and social aspects of school life.  That’s why a well-designed reentry plan is so important.  A quality bulimia nervosa treatment center will coordinate with the school and parents to pave the way for a successful return to daily life.

Setting the Foundation for a Recovered Adulthood

The late teenage years are the time when children transition from being youths to being adults, and therefore are among the most critical periods in any person’s life. During this time, if eating disorder treatment is needed, it’s absolutely critical that their education is not neglected.  If your adolescent daughter has received a diagnosis of anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, binge eating disorder, or any other eating disorder, reach out to a quality treatment center today – and make sure to check out their educational programs.

What Kind of Eating Disorder Counseling Can You Expect?

When first facing the prospect of entering an eating disorder treatment center, many patients are unsure what to expect.  They may even be nervous or resistant.  It’s natural to have some cold feet when it comes to entering an eating disorder treatment center, but a quality facility will have some characteristics that make the time spent pursuing eating disorder recovery much less intimidating.  Here, we will outline some of the eating disorder counseling programs and techniques commonly found in both day treatment and residential programs for eating disorder treatment and help to set aside some of the fears you or a loved one may be having about getting treatment.

A Safe, Comfortable Setting

Eating disorders, including anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, and binge eating disorder, are classified and recognized at mental health disorders.  Unfortunately, many people have a skewed idea of what eating disorder treatment at a mental health facility is like.  Movies and TV have sometimes put forward an image of sterile, hospital-like hallways with linoleum floors and fluorescent lighting, where people sleep on cots, and so on.

A quality eating disorder treatment center couldn’t be more different.

The best facilities will be luxurious and well-appointed, often with a cozy and home-like feel to them.  Bedrooms will be well-appointed and comfortable, and the facility itself should include a community cooking and eating space which can normalize the rituals of cooking and eating together.  A stay at one of these centers won’t be a nightmare like those portrayed in the media.

Modern, Evidence-Based Talk Therapy

Mental health treatment in general and eating disorder treatment, in particular, have grown in leaps and bounds recently, with the embrace of modern, evidence-based therapeutic techniques. This means two things: first, the method used is based around empirical evidence – using the scientific method to design treatment for each client based on what has been proved to work time and time again – and second, a conscious push to match the treatment program to the client's specific needs.  Rather than a cookie-cutter methodology which applies identical techniques to every case, a quality eating disorder treatment center will tailor the program to each client's unique needs.

These evidence-based therapies are often geared towards specifically addressing disordered behaviors like the repeating purging associated with bulimia nervosa. One such therapeutic technique is known as Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT).  This technique consists of mindfulness training and emotional distress tolerance – which means, through training and discussion with the eating disorder counselor, the individual getting treatment learns to process the negative emotions which help to cause eating disorders.  These emotions can be processed in a way which doesn’t involve harmful behavior or self-harm, providing a grounded path to long-term eating disorder recovery.
Experiential Therapies

What is an experiential therapy? They are still a relatively unknown for many people, but they are proving effective at many of the best eating disorder treatment programs.  An experiential therapy goes outside the bounds of traditional talk therapy and even techniques like DBT.  They do not necessarily need to be directly associated with food, eating, or body image, but instead put the mindfulness techniques being taught to a real-world application. A common form of experiential therapy is art therapy, in which the client draws, paints, or sculpts under the guidance of a therapist.  It’s extremely useful in taking steps towards acknowledging and processing the previously mentioned negative emotions.

Art therapy is also known for surprising individuals.  Often, feelings and ideas which couldn’t be expressed through normal means come flowing out when applied to paper or canvas.

Other experiential therapies that are more food-centric should also be part of a good eating disorder recovery program.  A great example of this would be excursions to a grocery store to go shopping for a balanced diet.  This is so effective because it simultaneously teaches a valuable life skill (picking nutritious food in balanced amounts) and helps address fears or anxieties around food and eating, which are common in most eating disorders, especially anorexia nervosa.  Experiential therapies like this and other, similar methods are the hallmark of a forward-thinking eating disorder treatment center.

Expect More from Your Eating Disorder Treatment

When you or a loved one has reached the point where you’re ready to seek out eating disorder counseling, remember that some anxiety about getting started is normal.  The portrayal of mental health treatment in the media has caused some confusion about what it’s really like.  You should expect the best from your eating disorder recovery program – including a safe, comfortable setting, evidence-based talk therapy, and a variety of different experiential methods to ensure the best chance at a long-term, recovered life.

The Positive Effects Of Using Healthcare IT

In today’s world, innovation has influenced the lives of many people, especially those in the healthcare industry. At one point, healthcare information technology (HIT) has been one of the essential innovations for medical providers. After all, it’s composed of a wide range of technologies for storing, sharing, and analyzing relevant health information.

If you’re working in the healthcare industry, here are a few positive effects that you can get from using healthcare information technology:

1. Provides Patients Direct Access To Health Records

As patients are guaranteed with the right to access medical information, the introduction of healthcare IT can give them easy and direct access to their health records online while preserving security and privacy. Moreover, providers with healthcare IT support can keep track of their patients’ care, as well as communicate with them securely.

2. Reduce Unnecessary Repeat Medical Tests
Typically, physicians may have to order a repetition of medical tests due to the unavailability of the results. However, repeating procedures and tests can be inconvenient and costly on the part of the patients. Fortunately, with the advent of healthcare IT, medical providers may have access to test results all at once. Through the electronic transmission of medical test results, patients don’t have to repeat the procedures once again.

3. It’s Cost-Efficient

Without modern technology, more finances are more likely to be wasted due to inefficient processes in the healthcare industry. Thanks to the implementation of healthcare information technology, quality service can be achieved because electronic records are simplified.

4. It Has Fast Turnaround And Time Savings For Prescriptions

Medical facilities that implement a healthcare IT system are capable of auditing patient records in the fastest time possible. Compared to paper auditing systems, healthcare IT can streamline the processes while saving time in the long run.

Before, manual drug prescriptions by physicians are time-consuming. But by using a healthcare IT system, providers can make electronic prescriptions, thereby saving time and effort.

5. Minimizes Paperwork

There are several paperwork in the healthcare industry. From the laboratory results to different drug prescriptions, most care providers will have to deal with a lot of information to serve their patients efficiently. And with more data added each day, completing forms and encoding information becomes a hassle. Luckily, healthcare information technology in place can reduce paperwork. The data encoded in the system will be immediately available to the patient, doctor, and even the hospital.

If you want to streamline records and make everything paperless, look for service providers like Medicus IT that can establish efficient IT solutions according to those objectives.

6. Provides Utmost Security For Personal Health Information
Again, modern technology allows anyone to access electronic health records easily and quickly. Given these circumstances, the safety and security of all relevant information in the system are essential. This is where the healthcare information technology system comes into play: it provides secure and confidential portals that every patient can access. These platforms are equipped with updated security features that protect sensitive information from a data breach.

7. Lowers Cases Of Medical Malpractice
The use of electronic records reduces the number of medical malpractice cases involving kids and other patients in the healthcare industry. That’s because all processes, including communication among care providers, patients, and doctors, are digital and up-to-date. With technology, doctors can minimize the risk of errors in diagnoses, prescriptions, and more importantly, surgical procedures.

8. Helps Coordinate The Patient’s Care And Safeguards Their Well-Being
Sometimes, patients may have more than one attending physician. Each one of them has the ability to prescribe drugs, and these may be detrimental to your health. Using a healthcare information technology system can alert the medical providers in the event the doctor tries to prescribe a drug that can hurt the patient. Additionally, an HIT can help notify one of the doctors if the other one has prescribed medication that may not work for the patient. Consequently, it can save them from the risks and costs of having an ineffective prescription.

9. Helps Provide Information On The Best Healthcare Practices

In addition to accessible health records, healthcare information technology has decision support systems that provide physicians with valuable information regarding the best treatment options and medical practices to boost the quality of human care. Also, using a healthcare IT system allows providers and medical practitioners to use tablets and mobile devices in documenting records in real time and improving doctor-patient relationships.

Conclusion
Indeed, healthcare IT is a growing innovation in the field of medical science. After all, people are in a society where advancements in technology are bound to happen from time to time. Keep these positive effects in mind and use this innovative tool to improve healthcare services and boost the well-being of patients.

What is CBD Flower and What Should You Know About It?

When it comes to CBD, there are so many ways of utilizing it. You can consume CBD products such as gummies, oil, and infused beverages to derive its benefits. However, there’s a wave of consumers who want CBD in its natural state. Typically, these would consume the CBD flower directly from the Industrial hemp farms without having it processed.

The CBD flower is not as popular as other CBD varieties. However, it’s an ideal choice for people seeking higher cannabidiol levels without necessarily pumping THC in their bodies.

What is it?

A CBD flower is derived from the Cannabis Sativa plant and contains the useful cannabinoids and terpenes found in CBD. People who smoke or vape CBD flowers claim that they offer more benefits than processed CBD. This is due to the abundance of compounds that produce noticeable and lasting effects.

CBD oils, for instance, go through CO2 or ethanol extraction processes that ultimately strip them of important cannabinoids in the process. Apart from the usual extraction process, some CBD products are distilled further for better purification. The end result is a product devoid of some of the useful stuff. On the contrary, the CBD flower is cut from the stalks of the hemp plant.

Can It Get You High?

There’s a misconception among many CBD consumers that the CBD flower is capable of making them intoxicated. However, this couldn’t further than the truth. First off, industrial hemp contains lower THC levels. This means that their flowers have significantly low amounts of THC as well (THC is what gets you high). What’s more, the high levels of CBD in a hemp flower regulate the THC effects. As a result, people use hemp buds to relax without necessarily generating a high. Some actually use it to counter the effects of a high THC product.

Benefits of the CBD Flower

Much like other CBD varieties, the CBD flower contains the fascinating compound known as cannabidiol or simply CBD. This happens to be a non-psychoactive component of the Cannabis Sativa with a ton of therapeutic features. CBD has been reported to have anti-oxidant, anti-inflammatory, and neuroprotective properties. Like CBD oil, the CBD flower may have great benefits for patients suffering from chronic pain, anxiety, sleep problems, and many more.

How to Use a CBD Flower

There are several ways of consuming a CBD hemp bud, including:

1. Smoking

For starters, you can smoke the bud like you would any other cannabis flower. The flowers are typically ground and rolled into a traditional joint or placed into a tube. According to research, smoking CBD flower doesn’t have a negative effect on the lungs as smoking tobacco would. However, keep in mind that this method isn’t the best for those with existing respiratory issues.

2. Vaping

If you don’t necessarily swim in the smoker’s pool, you might find that vaping CBD flowers through a dry herb vape is a better choice for you.  This way, you derive the benefits of CBD without putting your lungs on the line. This method is especially great for CBD novices and those who desire to keep their CBD consumption under wraps.

3. Baking

The CBD flower can also be consumed via the digestive tract. This is the safest method of consuming the CBD hemp bud because CBD doesn’t enter the bloodstream immediately after consumption as is the case with vaping and smoking. Note, though, that CBD edibles take a longer time to take effect that smoked and vaped products.

How to Know the Right Dose for You

There is no standard dose when it comes to consuming the CBD flower or any other CBD variety for that matter. Since they have different CBD to THC ratios, every strain affects people differently. Additionally, people react to THC in different measures. Some would do well with high CBD to THC ratios while others would be fine with lower ratios. To be safe, start with low doses of CBD flower (this can be one or two inhalations) and carefully work your way up.

The CBD flower contains higher concentrations of cannabinoids than other CBD varieties. It is great for people who want to derive the potential benefits of CBD without the need for processing. However, keep in mind that smoking and vaping aren’t exactly the best methods to consume CBD. Stick to CBD edibles if you can. If you have to smoke of vape, keep your inhalations to a minimum.

5 Health Benefits of Sauna Bathing

Saunas have been around in Finland for over 2000 years and have spread throughout the world. These days, you’ll be hard pressed to find a self-respecting wellness or fitness center without one. But while they’re great for relaxing after a long training session or at the end of a day of work, do they actually have tangible health benefits? Let’s take a look at a few ways taking a sauna bath could improve your general health.

Improves Circulation

One of the biggest benefits of saunas is that they can work wonders to boost your blood circulation. When you’re in a sauna, your blood vessels expand, and your heart rate increases. This not only improves your cardiovascular health, but can also boost detoxification and boost your metabolism as well.

The great thing is that you don’t necessarily have to go to a sauna to get these benefits. You could get a sauna vest or suit instead. If you want to see how they work and what they look like, you can find sauna sweat suits, vests, and more here. These can increase your body heat during exercise and boost circulation as well. They can also help you lose weight much faster, which is a major plus.

Improves Your Arteries’ Response

Another thing that saunas do is improve the way your arteries respond to sudden changes in pressure. This has a direct effect on how well the blood circulates to various body parts, including your brain. Saunas have also been shown to reduce diastolic and systolic blood pressure. If you don’t know what that means, diastolic stands for blood pressure between heartbeats and systolic pressure is measured during heartbeats.

They Could Increase Your Lifespan

Going to the sauna could actually help you live longer according to studies. As a matter of fact, various studies suggest a link between lower early mortality rates and sauna baths.

One particular study that was conducted on a group of Finnish men showed that those who went almost every day passed away later on average than those who only went once or twice a week.

While saunas have tons of health benefits on their own that could contribute to this, saunas are also very communal in nature, which helps people form bonds. This alone could be a large contributing factor.

They Could Improve Your Brain’s Health

Saunas have also been proven to help improve brain health. In addition to boosting relaxation and sleep, it also improves mood, reduces symptoms of depression and anxiety, and could even reduce the risks of developing Alzheimer's later on.

Another study that was conducted on Finnish men found that those who went to a sauna regularly had much lower rates of Alzheimer’s than the rest of the population. Here again though, the communal nature and the pleasure people derive from saunas could also delay or stop the development of memory disease.

They Can Help Alleviate Certain Chronic Conditions

Saunas have been shown to be beneficial for a wide variety of musculoskeletal disorders like fibromyalgia, rheumatoid arthritis, and osteoarthritis. Saunas have also been shown to reduce the violence of chronic migraines. One of the reasons cited for these benefits is that saunas seem to reduce the amount of inflammation in the blood. Many of these disorders are linked to excessive inflammation, and the anti-inflammatory properties of saunas may be the reason why they’re so effective for soothing them.

As you can see, there are tons of benefits of getting a nice steam bath every now and then. So, if you were still skeptical, we strongly suggest you give them a try and enjoy their benefits.

Benefits of Incorporating ERP in Clinical Practice

Technology has changed a lot of things in all industries that you can think of. We are talking about manufacturing, education, business and so on. One of the sectors \ which technology has impacted is the healthcare industry. The emergence of technologies such as medical coding services and ERP in the health sector has changed how things are run. The good thing is that it has changed for the better.

ERP, also known as enterprise resource planning software, is used by businesses to manage business operations, which vary within the fields. In healthcare, this is how ERP is helping.

1. Better management of patients’ data

As you may well be aware, the amount of data that a business handles increases every other day. As a result, it gets to a point where managing the date becomes challenging. Thanks to ERP, hospitals and clinics are able to handle customer information better. That is in the light of keeping it safe and also being able to update it periodically. It also makes patient data easily accessible when needed.

2. Better health care

Thanks to the free flow of information, doctors have easy access to patient data. Having central storage for patient information and electronic data makes it easy for healthcare providers to share information. As a result, before doctors treat a patient, they have all the medical records of a patient which makes it possible to provide them with quality service and
also reduce cases of misdiagnosis in medical practice.

3. Saving on operation cost

Note that apart from taking care of the patients’ health, clinics and hospitals are there to make profits. As you may be aware, businesses are able to make maximum profits if they minimize the cost of production or operation. The same theory applies to hospitals, by integrating such technologies, hospitals will require fewer employees to manage data. Also, it makes other functions such as billing, budgeting, and human resource management more efficient hence saving money.

Electronic transfer and collection of data save a lot of time. With that, hospitals can handle more clients in a day than when data is being processed manually. This translates to more profits. There is the aspect of using paperwork to store customer data, but it is not scalable, as more patient’s visit so does the need to increase the stationary increase which can be quite costly. ERP is scalable and eliminates the need for the company to purchase more paper.

4. Reduction of errors

Errors in patients’ information have led to severe consequences such as misdiagnosis. ERP systems ensure that the data kept is consistent. This, in turn, increases the credibility and the reliability of data. Hospitals with ERP do not experience such issues.

ERP software has been found to be very beneficial in different lines of work. Adoption of this technology has improved efficiency in clinical practice and also led to better customer service. To enjoy the benefits and get a competitive advantage, you should consider incorporating it in your practice.

Slow Rising HCG Levels in Early Pregnancy

The only way you can know that you are pregnant is through the hormone human chorionic gonadotropin. This hormone is only present when fertilization takes place. When you go for a pregnancy test, this is the hormone tested. The placenta produces this hormone and it is detected using the urine test. Apart from the urine, other women prefer the blood test because it is more accurate than the urine test. If you are pregnant, the test will show positive. If you are not pregnant, this hormone is not present.

After implantation, this hormone is said to double after 3 days. Nonetheless, the level of HCG differs from woman to woman and therefore for others it may double and others will not. Whenever, you go for clinical checkups, the doctor tests the level of HCG. In addition, with the levels of the HCG, the doctor is able to tell whether there is danger ahead. During early pregnancy, some women may report normal HCG and others low HCG.

Some women tend to believe that a low HCG level is risky but it does not always indicate a miscarriage. The condition worsens if only the level continues to go down. That is when the doctor prepares you that you might have a miscarriage or you have ectopic pregnancy. However, you may also hear of slow rising HCG levels in early pregnancy. It is very possible to be in such a condition because it will finally rise as normal. Issues come about if you have a drop in HCG levels. The low levels may indicated a problem like molar pregnancy.

Though not common in most cases, a slow rise of HCG levels in early pregnancy may indicate blighted ovum, ectopic pregnancy and an impending miscarriage. Generally, a blighted ovum does not mean that you are not pregnant anymore. It simply means that your pregnancy has ended so early that the implant did not manage to form the fetus. In the early stage of pregnancy, it is not possible to view every detail. However, it is clear that a blighted ovum finally results in miscarriage. The worst problem during pregnancy is to have a miscarriage. This is a very pain condition for a woman in spite of how early it might occur. Both miscarriage and ectopic pregnancy cannot be prevented. However, there are noticeable symptoms before these problems occur that indicate something serious.

Despite the fact that slow rising HCG levels in early pregnancy can cause serious complications, you need not suffer a lot. Here are some tips to increase the HCG level. You always need to visit you doctor to monitor your progress. Also, take the prenatal vitamins and take medications as prescribed by your doctor. There are medications to increase the levels of HCG. However, it is not crucial to do it on your own. This is because unbalanced levels of HCG may cause serious problems. If there are some problems, you really need to seek medical attention. However, you never need to worry because of slow rising of HCG. There are remedies and you can retain your baby.

Homemade & Natural Remedies for Back Pains

Over the years we have seen the number of people complaining about back pain troubles rise considerably. The American Chiropractic Association claims that back pain is regarded as the leading cause of maladies that are preventing people from getting to work and performing everyday activities. Around 80% of the population is expected to experience back pain at some point in their lives. In the course of 15 years, research showed that from 1990 to 2015, lower back pain problems increase by 54%. In America alone, at least $50 billion is spent on health care each year related to lower back plights. This is why through this post we will offer you some great homemade remedies that can relieve you of such problems and offer you comfort during those painful days. So read along and find out just how exactly you can get rid of back pain difficulties. Of course, you should always consult with a physician first.

Homemade Creams & Ointments to Try Out

While for serious concerns such as an accident, you might want to go through a comprehensive spinal cord injury treatment program, for glitches you feel rarely, there are some ointments for you to try out. They usually act out as a pain reliever so you can rub them like cream to offer you a soothing effect. Here is what you could try out:
  • Brazilian Arnica: this flowering plant also commonly known as wolf’s bane is a powerful agent when it comes to treating pains and body spasms. Scientific evaluations conducted in a controlled environment using 10 subjects showed a significant reduction in back pain when a cream using 5% of Brazilian Arnica was applied for 15 days using a glycol solution. {(c) 2009 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.}

  • Cayenne: it is a pepper hailing from the capsicum family. It contains capsaicin which is a powerful analgesic. You can also buy capsicum plasters and creams from a nearby local general store or shop. However, we recommend making a salve for your own self at home. This way you can apply freshly prepared homemade cream whenever the need arises.

  • Comfrey: it might come as a surprise since this flowering plant is considered to be poisonous, however, the leaf, root, and the stem are often used to make medicine. The root especially has a profound medicinal property to treat back pain. Creams that use comfrey as a vital ingredient often provide tremendous comfort for those with back pains after use. It has been proven to reduce back pain in sufferers by 95%, taking immediate effect in less than 1 hour of use.
Massage Therapy

When it comes to easing out chronic pain, many have stated that a massage works wonders for them. Not only does it offer them plenty of relaxation, but it is also great for treating nonspecific, subacute, and in some case even chronic low back pain. Massages are also known to offer you relief for sore and tense muscles. Traditional treatments included with gentle massages have been found to be quite effective in the management of back functioning, back pain, and bedridden days. People who have opted for massages, specifically for back pain troubles, have found no striking difference as such in between relaxation and structural massages. However structural massages are indeed more expensive. If you don’t want to act like a spendthrift, you can simply ask your partners or companions to learn some easy to follow routines online. They can then offer you a massage and further add pain relief ointments for an extra touch.

Eating Well To Fight Back Pain

There is no doubt that during times of an ailment you need to have a strict check on what you eat or add to your staple diet. The womb of Mother Nature has always been a supporter of our health and fitness. Unfortunately, it is us who have diverted to consuming processed food and use items with chemical additives over time to the point we mass consume them without any precautions. Here is what you need to eat in order to combat back pain troubles:
  • Anti-Inflammatory herbs: many back pain troubles arise from inflammation occurring within the body. This is why there are certain herbs that are available easily from the market that can have tremendous anti-inflammatory effects. Take willow bark and devil’s claw for example. Willow bark acts like aspirin. The devil’s claw, on the other hand, provides you with harpagosides that offer you anti-inflammatory benefits.

  • Magnesium: it is the 4th most abundant body mineral. Magnesium provides you with various benefits through its 300 biochemical reactions within the body. Not only does it assist you in managing muscle and nerve functions, a steady heartbeat/rhythm, but it also is a great preserver of bone health. In the right amounts, it can boost your immune system, as well as help you maintain normal blood pressures.

  • Vitamin B12: the powerhouse that we all have given up due to falling in addiction with junk food, Vitamin B12 is great for growing kids and young adults since it helps them to maintain energy levels throughout the day. However, what most people do not know about this naturally occurring miracle is that Vitamin B12 can also help you in the treatment of various ailments including back pain concerns.

  • Vitamin D: it goes without saying how important this vitamin is when it comes to combating various ailments that we have come to know off in early days and recent times. Vitamin deficiency is the primary cause of many diseases. It has been clinically proven that sufficient supplements of Vitamin D can help restore many functions in the human body as well as offer superb improvement regarding back pain issues.
Meditation, Tai Chi, & Yoga

Your body is a living organism and as such we should all avoid sedentary lifestyles that we have grown so accustomed to. Binge watching shows, spending hours upon hours on social media, playing video games, have all resulted in us losing touch with the real world around us. Our bodies need upkeep and maintenance which comes in the form of physical excursions. Here are some of the best forms of exercises that can offer you relative improvement regarding your back-pain apprehensions.
  • Meditation: this is perhaps one earliest form of mind-body practices that has roots in many cultures, ethos, and religions. Many studies over the years have shown considerable improvement in body pains through meditation. A study conducted in 2008, revealed that 37 patients having chronic low back pain were found to have substantial improvements with an average meditation of 31.6 minutes every 4.3 days of the week.

  • Tai Chi: this ancient Chinese martial arts form involves graceful but slow movements while continuously incorporating deep breathing techniques. A study conducted in 2011 showed that in as short as a 10-week tai chi program, around 160 adults suffering from long-term low back pains found their symptoms to be reduced considerably. They practiced tai chi and participated in a 40-minute long session for around 18 times over the period of 70 days.

  • Yoga: who would have thought that this incredible discipline that seeks to create a balance between the mind, body, and soul can have splendid effects in treating back pain troubles as well? Yoga has ancient roots dating back to 1500-500 BCE.
We hope this post was able to offer you a great understanding as to how you can reduce back pain troubles using homemade remedies and therapies. How to deal with contact lens discomfort

Over the years contact lens materials have evolved and so have the lens care solutions in the market. However despite this, contact lens wearers can still experience symptoms of dryness, irritation and discomfort. With an increasing number of people opting for coloured contact lenses in exciting shades like Solotica Aquarella, the number of new contact lens wearers has also increased.

Getting used to wearing lenses takes some time, practice and care.  Studies show that almost 50% of lens wearers experience dryness and discomfort.

Here are some tips to deal with contact lens discomfort.

If you are experiencing dryness or discomfort while wearing your lens, the first thing you have to do is remove your lens, rinse it and place it back in its case with fresh solution. Check your eyes for dirt or eyelashes, these are common causes for contact lens discomfort. Check your lens as well for debris or eyelashes as well. Check if your lens is damaged. If it is, do not put the lens back on your eye. If the lens appears undamaged and is cleaned, try re-inserting it. If the discomfort persists, then remove it immediately and consult an eye care professional.

One of the common mistakes a lot of lens wearers make is touching their eyes without washing their hands or trying to put in your lens after you’ve put on cream or lotion. This immediately makes your eyes burn and water, making it very uncomfortable to put your lens in. Remember to wash your hands thoroughly and dry them before handling your eye and your lens.

Check the fit of your contact lens, when a lens fits properly it should fit the entire cornea and should move very little when you blink. If there is a lot of movement in the lens, that when the wearer begins experiencing  dryness, irritation etc. Also if it does not fit your cornea correctly you might be wearing the wrong size. In that case it is best to get another prescription from your doctor.

If your job includes long hours in front of a computer screen, chances are you will experience a case of dry eyes, wherein your lens feels dry and rigid against your eye. One of the easy solutions for this is to buy re-hydrating eye drops. Artificial tears are a great way to relieve dryness. Consult an eye specialist to check which brand goes with the lens you are wearing. Soft lenses that retain moisture for longer durations like Anesthesia Once are also a great way to keep dry eyes at bay.

Typically contact lenses should be worn for about 12 hours or less. When you wear the lens for longer, it begins to lose its moisture and ultimately becomes uncomfortable. Reducing the time you spend wearing your contact lenses helps reduce discomfort. Switching between your glasses and lenses periodically helps rest the eyes.

Sorry ladies but too much make up around the eye could also ruin your contact lens wearing experience. Too much make up around the eyes can be uncomfortable and can result in a build-up of product around the eyes that could eventually make its way over to your lenses.

If you are an allergy prone person, especially eye allergies then chances are contact lens discomfort is not new to you.  A lot of wearers change their lens habits or just forgo their lenses altogether during allergy season.  But here’s a tip, you could switch to daily disposable lenses during allergy season.

If these tips do not take care of your discomfort then it could be an infection or another medical condition. In that case it is always best to visit your ophthalmologist to get your eyes properly checked out.

Try These 6 Healthy Activities This Summer

Summer is the perfect time to start getting into some healthier habits. The weather outside is nice, meaning you can do things outside that you don’t normally get to during other months. If you’re looking for some activities that you can do this Summer, and ones that will provide some health benefits, give some on the list below a shot. You may just find your new favorite activity.

Take a Hike

Hiking is a very healthy activity, and Summer is the perfect time for it. Hiking gives you a good cardio workout, exercises the leg and core muscles, and allows you to escape from everyday life for a little while. The best time to go hiking during the Summer is in the early hours, as it isn’t as hot then. Find some local hiking trails in your area, grab a bottle of water, and go explore. Once you’re out in the middle of nowhere, your mind will be more at ease, and your body will appreciate the tough workout.

Try Yoga

Yoga provides a lot of healthy benefits. It works out specific muscle groups, especially your core. It can also help to relieve stress, and make you more flexible (and therefore at a lower risk for injury). You can do yoga any time of year, but Summer allows you to do it outside. Doing yoga outside during some nice weather adds a great element to it, and can make your yoga experience even better. Find some yoga routines online that you like and bring your phone or tablet outside with you. Or, you may even be able to find some local outdoor yoga classes in your area that you can join.

Take Up Kayaking

If you want to spend some time on the water, kayaking is a great activity to try out. Kayaking provides a great workout to your upper body, and you get to spend a few hours out on the water with nothing to bother you. If you’re new to kayaking, you’ll want to avoid rougher waters, and instead opt for a lake or bay area. All you need to get started is a kayak (you can rent one or buy a used one), a paddle, and perhaps a life jacket if you’re not a strong swimmer. Then head on over to your nearest body of water and enjoy the ride.

Take Out a Paddle Board

Going for a ride on a paddle board is similar to kayaking. You give your upper body, including your core, a great workout. With paddle boarding, you stand up on a surf board, and use a paddle to navigate around. It may sound easy, but it will give you quite a workout by the time your done. Again you’ll want to do this in calm waters, as standing on your board will be pretty much impossible on rough waters. To get started do a Google search like “paddle board for sale near me”, then find a body of water near you that seems suitable.

Swim Laps

Swimming is one of the healthiest activities you can do. It works basically every muscle group while also giving you a cardio workout. And while you can swim during the Winter if you can find a local indoor pool, swimming during the Summer is much better. There’s nothing quite like jumping into some cool water on a hot day. You can go swimming either in your own pool if it’s large enough, or head over to a local lake. Either way, once you’re in, try doing these swim exercises to give yourself a good workout.

Read a Book

Finally, healthy habits aren’t all about physical health. Sometimes you need to take care of your mind too, and for that reading a book can go a long way. Set aside some time to sit outside in the nice Summer weather and read a book that you really enjoy. This will not only help you remove stress, but you may even learn something new. So, head on over to your local library, bookstore, or grab a Kindle, then sit down for a bit and relax.

Make Time for Healthy Choices

Even though it’s the Summer, our lives remain busy. It’s important that we set aside some time for healthy activities once in a while. The above activities are all great to do during the Summer, but they won’t happen if you don’t find the time. Pick one or two that you really want to try, set aside the time, and then go enjoy the Summer weather.
